I’m running for Baker County Commissioner Pos 3 because I love Baker County.
I grew up in Baker City. My father, Buck, served in the US Army, and later became a John Deere certified diesel mechanic for Jones and Son. He also worked for the US Forest Service and Baker Sanitary Service. My mother, Doris, was a homemaker and musician. We’ve enjoyed our summers at our cabin in Sumpter Oregon throughout the years together. My family has called Baker City home since 1935.
As a young man, I started volunteering with the Baker County Sheriff's Posse and Search and Rescue. These experiences led me to become a First Aid and CPR Instructor for the American Red Cross. Later, I also worked as a Disaster Services Volunteer. During Hurricane Katrina in 2005, I helped to coordinate services and emergency communication. I have also worked with Baker County Emergency Management on shelter preparedness and disaster planning.
I have a passion for the outdoors. Growing up in Baker County with the high deserts and forests started this love. I had the opportunity to work as a back-country guide in Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Though the beauty of southern Utah was striking, nothing compared to the mountains and sunsets of eastern Oregon. This love led me to open Baboon Creek Outfitters. My brother Mark and I now run our sporting goods store on Main Street in Baker City.
